Hello everyone!
I managed to get an Owl Crate subscription! I’m so freaking excited! April was my first box with my subscription and I’m so excited to show you what’s inside. April’s theme was Ruthless Rivals. I thought all the items were super cute and can’t wait to share them.
Let’s get into it!
The first item this month is the game Et Cetera Card Game exclusive for Owl Crate by Ted Medovich. I love the design and packing of the game. The cards have the Owl Crate logo on them. They’re super cute! Each card is a book related category such as “characters who wield swords” or “books that have made you cry”. You need 2-4 players, and the rules are pretty straight forward. The person to your left picks a card with the category, the person to the right has 30 seconds to list five answers for the topic. So if I had the topic “standalone books” I would have 30 seconds to come up with five answers (Dracula, Fat Chance Charlie Vega, Pride and Prejudice, The Lost Apothecary and Honey Girl). The first player to 10 points wins. I haven’t had the chance to play yet but I’m looking forward to it.
The next item was Fable Grounds Coffee in the flavor cinnamon hazelnut. I have to confess I did try this right away and it was not a favorite of mine. I do love coffee but I’m not a big hazelnut person. Hopefully someone at my house will drink it but I am definitely going to look into Fable Grounds Coffee to see what else they have.
Next was a Hamilton inspired phone wallet by Lady Chubb Letters. I love Hamilton! I was able to see the show when it was in Chicago a couple years ago. It was great and the original cast production is on Disney+ and I love that version too. I currently don’t have a case to stick this onto, but phone wallets are always useful.
After that there was a throw pillowcase by KDP Letters inspired by Nevernight. I haven’t read the Nevernight series and given what’s come out about the author (tldr: Jay Kristoff has accusations of racist comments as well as harmful stereotypes in his novels) I don’t plan on it. But the pillowcase is cute and good for someone with a dog addicted to pillows.
One of the coolest items this month were the These Violent Delights chopsticks by @paperbackbones with the carrying case. These Violent Delights has been sitting on my shelf since I got it in December with BOTM. I have every intention to read it but other things keep popping up. From what I understand it’s a Romeo/Juliet style love story set in 1920’s China. Each pair of chopsticks represents a gang from the story. I don’t know how to use chopsticks but now that I own two pairs, I’m sure Tammy will teach me. They’re super cute and I like that they come with a case.
The book this month was Witches Steeped in Gold by Ciannon Smart. As with every month the book has an exclusive cover for owl crate including gold foiling, note from author and its signed. The dust jacket has reversible art by Tiara L’Hommedieu. The cover and edition of the book are gorgeous. I’m a sucker for gold foil on a hard cover.
I’ll include the summary from the book flap below:
Iraya Adair has spent her life in a cell. Heir to an overthrown and magically gifted dynasty, she was exiled from her home on the island nation of Aiyca when just a child. But everyday brings her closed to freedom – and vengeance.
Jazmyne Cariot grew up dressed in gold, with stolen magic at her fingertips. Daughter of the self-crowned doyenne, her existence is a treat to her mother’s rule. But unliker her sister before her, Jazymne has no intention of dying to strengthen her mother’s power.
Sworn enemies, the two witches enter a deadly alliance to take down the woman who threatens both their worlds: Doyenne Cariot
But revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain – except the lengths Iraya and Jazmyne will go to win this game.

Last but certainly not least was the monthly pin inspired by Witches Steeped in Gold designed by Icey Designs. This pin is giant. I put it on my pin banner, and I’ve realized that I’m definitely not going to have enough space for all of my new book pins and Disney pins. Like every month, the pin ties in with the book. I haven’t had the chance to read it yet but from the pin it seems intriguing.
I’m super pumped for the May box. The theme is Expect the Unexpected and from the sneak peaks the stuff inside is going to be so cool.
Until next time!
